This collection of more than 4,000 plants, on 26 acres, is important for other reasons as well. The Fullerton Arboretum helps us to understand the diversity of the world’s plant life and the importance of protecting the earth’s plant treasures.

About this photo: Jerome, Arizon (July 2008) Cleopatra Hill - The road signs along the back road into Jerome are obviously used for target practice. Jerome is located at 5,200 feet between Prescott and Flagstaff this historic copper mining town was once known as the wickedest town in the west, Jerome grew from a settlement of tents to a roaring mining community. Four disastrous fires destroyed large sections of the town during its early history, resulting in the incorporation of the City of Jerome in 1899.

About this photo: Inyo National Forest, California (September 2005) Patriarch Grove - The grove is the home of the world's largest Bristlecone Pine, the Patriarch Tree, which are thought to reach an age far greater than that of any other single living organism known, up to nearly 5,000 years. The Bristlecone Pine Forest is located at 10,000 feet and it's splendid remoteness and moonscape appearance gives the Patriarch Grove a surreal atmosphere. Bristlecone pines and limber pines dot the landscape with a background view of the Great Basin in Nevada.

Isabelle's School Party

Today was Isabelle's Thanksgiving lunch with family at her preschool. The kids were so cute, but I was not aware that the pilgrims celebrated with mini corn-dogs and juice boxes. I guess I should have paid better attention in history class.

On the west side of 1,000-foot-high Heceta Head, 205 feet above the ocean, the lighthouse is one of the most photographed on the coast. The light at top of 56-foot tower was illuminated in 1894; the automated beacon, seen 21 miles from land, is rated as the strongest light on the Oregon coast.

The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyph.
